CNY Martial Arts "FLASH MOB"
My name is Nikki Bronner and I am a Cancer survivor!! I was diagnosed in 1990 at the age of 16 with Hodgkins Disease !!! I am also a receiver of a Wish from Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York.
My story is very long, so I will be short. Many pages are needed to get thru it, so let me put it as simple as possible.
My first round of treatment went for a little over a year with High Dose Chemotherapy. I reached remission, received a Wish and the next 4-1/2 years of my life was looking better and better.
However, in1995, I was diagnosed again. At this point I received more High Dose Chemotherapy and then received an Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant thru Upstate Hospital in Syracuse. I managed to "WIN" another battle. Not an easy fight, but I made it.
The next 4-1/2 years, yes, things were getting better, so I thought. Then it hit again in 2000. At this point my options were less and I had alot of decisions to make. After research, I chose to opt-out of a donor transplant. My sister was a match, but the fear of "not making it", steered me in another direction. I started High Dose Chemotherapy again and took a second chance, with another Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant. It seemed the best answer.
I did receive another remission and I was again hoping that I "WON" the battle. Unfortunately, in 2001, only a few months after the news of remission, I relapsed again. Options were slimmer, and this time, some radiation therapy was the road I had to take.
As of today, I have remained in remission and I still hope I "WON" this battle for good. The price I pay for all the treatment is high. My health is not what a typical 37 year old should be, but I can say, I have no complaints. I must accept this and embrace the good and bad. I stay positive and keep pushing forward, no matter what.
I am now organizing the CNY Martial Arts "FLASH MOB" . I hope to raise enough money to grant the Wish of a child who needs to smile while battling thru a rough time, just as I have. It is an opportunity for me to give back. The Martial Arts has been in my life and family for 30 years. The Martial Arts community is an exceptional group of people and I believe that together we can make this happen.
I am hoping my friends, my Martial Arts peers, my family, and their families will help me make this happen !!!! Every little bit helps !!! Let's make a child smile this holiday season.
